Powerful quake rocks Indonesia, no immediate tsunami warning

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck deep in the sea north of Bali and Lombok islands in Indonesia on Wednesday, January 25, 2024, at 1441 UTC. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the quake was located approximately 140 kilometers north of Mataram, Lombok, and had a depth of 120 kilometers. There have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has not issued a tsunami warning.

The earthquake was felt strongly in Bali and Lombok, with residents reporting shaking and swaying buildings. Some areas also experienced power outages. The quake was also felt in East Java and parts of South Sulawesi.
