Nick Saban Retires After 17 Seasons

Legendary Alabama Football Coach Steps Down

National Championship Reign Ends

Nick Saban, one of the most successful college football coaches in history, has announced his retirement after 17 seasons as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Saban, who turns 73 next month, led Alabama to six national championships, including the last two in 2020 and 2021. He also guided the team to 10 Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships and 189 wins.

"After 25 seasons as a head football coach, including 17 at Alabama, I have decided to step down as the head coach of the Crimson Tide," Saban said in a statement released by the university. "This was not an easy decision, but it is the right one for me and for the University of Alabama."

Saban's retirement ends one of the most dominant eras in college football history. He leaves Alabama as the winningest coach in program history and as the second-winningest coach in college football behind Joe Paterno. Saban's teams were known for their physicality, discipline, and attention to detail. He was also a master recruiter, landing some of the top high school players in the country year after year.

Saban's legacy will likely be debated for years to come, but there is no doubt that he is one of the greatest coaches in college football history. He leaves behind a program that is in good shape and a fan base that is grateful for all that he has accomplished.
